ABC Open: VSI interface using Google O3D
ABC Open: VSI interface using Google O3D
ABC-Disney approached Halcyon Design a couple months prior to the 2009 Google IO Developer Conference with a great idea to help unveil the new ABC Open API. Using the new Google O3D technology, Halcyon Design would develop the 3D interface of a web application that would pull show data using the ABC Open API. The final product, ABC Open: VSI, was presented at the conference to 3500 developers with great reception.

The Click & Clack As the Wrench Turns showsite was commissioned to Halcyon Design by PBS.org to accompany the release of PBS network's first prime-time animated series. Halcyon Design was tasked to create and produce all the featured elements that included a video player for online viewing of the full episodes, show related games, and entertaining and educational widgets. The result was a website that provides a fun and entertaining experience that accessible to the wide range of the show's fanbase.

Ultimately, the widget provides PBS producers an innovative way to communicate to users via this emerging viral marketing tool.

The widget was created in flash and is distributed using the Gigya service. The quiz content was provided by the show's producers.

Plush Cafe Online is the company website for one of Downtown Fullerton's nightly hot spots. The site captures the clean, modern image and branding of the company while providing patrons information about the cafe's offerings.

Plush Cafe Online uses current web development technologies to provide an animated experience without the use of heavy flash elements, making the site and its content available to a wide range of users.

Halcyon Design took concept sketches and provided the final polished design for the ABC Nightline News interactive timeline for their "Road to the White House" featurette.

Power of Art Online
Power of Art Online
Power of Art Online is the website for the PBS show "Simon Schama's Power of Art." Commissioned to Halcyon Design by New York City's Thirteen/WNET, the website is both elegant and highly functional. It serves as both an extension of the show series and the book, as well as an educational tool for educators and their students.

We built the entire website from the "ground-up", including all sub-sections, submission forms, and Flash interactives. The website is an example of a "hybrid" site, integrating Flash elements with XHTML, CSS, and Javascript. In turn, Power of Art Online is accessible to a wider audience, including Apple iPhone users.

The major features of the site are 'Explore the Painting' Flash interactives, which allows users to explore and learn facts about featured artist and their work; the 'Painting Locator' feature, which integrates Google Map services to find locations of the featured artists; and the Animated Navigation, an effect created without the use of "heavy" elements such as Flash.

The Cyberchase Outreach Portal is an online content serving system that allows Educators to download Content for the popular PBS Kids show "Cyberchase." Commissioned by New York City's Thirteen/WNET, Halcyon Design was given the user interface and tasked to implement the functionality of the forms. The project consisted of developing the functionality of both the public user sections and the internal Admin sections of the website. Functionalities implemented included a User Registration system; the ability to Upload, Download, and Update content; and the content Search feature.

Rex Smith Online is the official site for the multi-talented entertainer Rex Smith. This site serves as both his fan-site and portfolio for interested agents. Halcyon Design provided both visual design and development of this site. The site uses a combination of Flash and Javascript effects to provide a highly accessible, entertaining, and informative website with a contemporary stylistic yet professional feel.

ClockworkPrinting.com is a Business-to-Business website that allows the company’s new and existing clients to order, pay for, and upload the design of their print purchases. The website design captures the identity and character of the company, exhibiting style without loss of usability and functionality.

We built the entire system, including a Shopping Cart that integrates with Paypal’s free online payment service to handle secured online payments. The front-end of the site was developed using XHTML, CSS, and Javascript while the back-end is developed with PHP interfaced with a MySQL database.

The major features of the site are the enhanced browsing effect of Gallery section; the Admin section, which allows the Clockwork team to manage online orders; and the Shopping Cart system that integrates Paypal’s online payment services.

Alien Artifacts Online is the company website of aspiring clothing designer Brain Gooden. The site captures the artistic style of his clothing line while projecting his personality and philosophy on life. An accompanying online store is currently being developed.

The Afacts.net homepage was composed in Flash and provides a different experience to site navigation. Actionscript was used to accomplish animated effects.

JMACLending.com is the company website of a Southern California based mortgage and lending company. The website serves to primarily engage potential partners and interested clients, informing them of the company's programs, services, and history.

The design was done to reflect the company's image and branding, while setting the company's website apart from stale websites their competition. Developed using the current web technologies, JMACLending.com makes efficient use of bandwidth while enhancing the end-user experience via fast load times and wide browser support.

Stephanie Liu
Designer
Stephanie is the Lead Designer at Halcyon Design. She oversees the creative direction for each site. Stephanie has an extensive background in web design. She most recently worked as a designer for ABC.com, designing a multitude of popular show sites and special features. She also has done much of the same work for PBS, and in addition created various educational Flash interactives. Her specialties include Photoshop, Flash, and Actionscript.
Kah Liu
Developer
Kah is the Lead System Developer at Halcyon Design. He oversees all aspects of the technical direction for each site. Kah brings a wide range of experience to the team, from his experience as a developer for IBM to his experience as a researcher in the emerging fields of Ubiquitous Computing and Human Computer Interactions. His current research includes context-aware application and the user study of the field of Ubiquitious Computing. His specialties include Web Technologies (PHP, CSS, Javascript), Database Systems, and System Development.
Jeff Bautista
Project Manager
Jeff holds the role as the Halcyon Project Manager. He has the overall responsibility of interfacing with clients, managing project schedules, and general oversight of each project. With a background as a Systems Analyst with the Department of Defense, as well as his experience as a software developer, Jeff has a proven ability to interface with a wide range of stakeholders.
